About Gigantes Island

The name Islas de Gigantes or Gigantes Island is rooted during the Spanish colonial era. There were coffins found in the caves allegedly contained massive human bones thus the Spanish word “gigante” was applied. There is no evidence to this and remains a local legend.

There was another story that Gigantes Sur and Gigantes Norte were two giant lovers. Gigantes Sur is the female and Gigantes Norte as the male giant. Gigantes Sur was taken away from Gigantes Norte for years until he learned that she’s already dead. He was saddened by the news until he’s weakened and reached his own death. It is believed that the two bodies of lying giants are now the major islands comprising Gigantes Islands.

Top Attractions and Things to do in Gigantes Islands

Carles, Iloilo is home for white sand islands and beautiful karst rock formations. When in Gigantes, these are the places you’ll get to visit and the things you need to do to enjoy your trip.

Tour Around Pulupandan Island

This is probably one of the smallest islands in Gigantes with white sand beach and beautiful rock formations. You can tour around this island for just few minutes. This is usually the first destination of the island hopping tour. You can have a quick swim or take pictures on its gleaming rock formations.

Snorkeling and Swimming in Antonia Island

This is the nearest island from Gigantes Norte and resembles a form of a sandwich. The island boasts fine white sand beach and recognized as a snorkeling spot for its beautiful underwater landscape. There are other activities like banana boat ride and jetski.

Karst rock formations are also found in Antonia Island. You may climb and enjoy the panoramic view at the top overlooking the double-sided beach with equally beautiful shorelines.

Uncover the Beauty of Tinagong Dagat

Tinagong Dagat rests at Antonia Island and just the opposite side of Antonia Beach. It is formerly known as Isla Bonita and now dubbed as mini Boracay for its sand feature similarities.

What we liked most is the perfect picture spot in the middle of palm trees along the powdery white sand. This one is legit paradise!

Get Tanned in Bantigue Sandbar

Bantique Island is where the party at. This island is known for overflowing drinks and party events. There are numerous cottages and rooms for tourists who want to spend overnight and have fun. What is notable in this place is the long stretch of sandbar perfectly drawn in the clear blue waters surrounding the island.

Experience the Most Photographed Island of Cabugao Gamay

Cabugao Gamay is easily the most lovely and photographed island in Gigantes. It is well known for its distinctive landscape on one side featuring huge pile of rocks supporting the viewing deck and the other end as a small hill with rich vegetation. What’s more intriguing is the stretch of pure white sand positioned at the center separating the two ends.

Given its popularity, expect this place to be crowded especially when lining up to the viewing deck. It is very well exposed to sunlight it is advisable to wear cap and sunblock for skin protection. Going up may only take 3 minutes plus waiting time when there’s a queue. Getting there is easier thru man-made ladder and some fences made from bamboos for support. All those waiting time and sweat are worth it when you get your chance in the viewing deck. It is certainly the most beautiful spot and trademark of Gigantes Islands.

Visit the Enchanting Tangke Lagoon

Tangke Salt Water Lagoon is best to visit during the dry months and when high tide. It is most likely closed during habagat seasons from month of June until September as the current could be rough making the entrance unpassable for tourists. Massive limestone rock formations and sharp cliffs enclose the shallow pool of Tangke making it even more enchanting. Not to mention the clear emerald water which tempt anybody to swim. Cliff diving is also a fun activity in Tangke Lagoon. If you have the chance and the weather permits, Tangke should be in your list.

Feast on Fresh Seafood

Gigantes is dubbed as the Scallop Capital of the Philippines and it continues to live up to its name. The overloaded servings of scallop are unbelievable. Eat as much as you can and feast on other offerings like the odd-shaped Wasay-wasay shell best dipped in vinegar. Fish, crab, shrimp and squid are among other aquatic delights to try.

Other notable places to visit when in Gigantes are Gigantes Norte Lighthouse, Bakwitan Cave, Pawikan Cave, Cabugao Dako, Lango Beach and sandbar. To cover these destinations you need to stay at least 2 days in Gigantes.

Where To Stay in Carles

We visited Gigantes Island last July 2019 and since this month isn’t peak season, we took our chance to find hotels as walk-ins. In our surprise, there were too many accommodations near and around Bancal Port in Carles that you wouldn’t find online.

We stayed at Beverly Hills Inn which we found when we arrived a night before our scheduled day tour island hopping in Gigantes. They have decent AC rooms for small and big groups. We had ours at Php800 good for 2 – 3 persons and breakfast as cheap as Php60 per meal.

Quick guide to Beijing China:

1. Did you know that we are required to have a Tourist Visa before entering to China? yes, unless you will just transit to another 3rd country then that is FREE provided that you will stay only the port of entry for not more than 24 hours. You can refer to this guide for the step by step requirements of getting a Chinese tourist visa here https://www.rappler.com/life-and-style/travel/157693-chinese-tourist-visa-application-guide-filipinos. I personally used this guide and very detailed to follow.

2. The embassy requires a round trip airfare ticket, make sure you secure this before applying. Always subscribe to all airlines and watch out for the Peso sale. We’ve been doing this for 10 years now 🙂

3.You need to get a reservation hotel accommodation. I suggest not to pay first since you need to know if you successfully acquire a tourist visa in the Chinese Embassy. Book for hotels here and make sure you select hotels that doesn’t require any initial payment and you can pay cash once you are there and about to check-in. Our hotel in Beijing doesn’t require any advance payment so you can do that as well. You can book here in John Howard Paragon Hotel.

4. Download the necessary apps because remember that any Google product and Facebook are not allowed in China even if you use VPN. I recommend to download the metro train map station, offline Bing or maps.me so you can easily go around even without mobile data. Download as well the attractions that you will be going so you are prepared.

5. Chinese don’t speak good english, even if we are in the restaurant, they will still speak in Mandarin so make sure you know some basic Chinese words like ordering for food. Or simply just point the food you want to order from their menu and that’s it.

6. Get a local china simcard in the airport with mobile data so you get online, gps and other guides online. They prefer to use whatsup and viber there not FB messenger because that is blocked.

7. You can bring food like cup noodles, bread and snacks to save even more from the Philippines provided that you have enough baggage allowance.

8. Most of the tours requires physical fitness. Make sure you are ready to walk for 1 to 5 kms per day. Do a morning workout before going into the tour so it will not that difficult at the end.

9. Bring your powerbank, bottle water, phone, camera and password always. Some attractions requires your ID just like in Tien Amen Square. Also make sure you have a handy snack with you.

10. Maximize your time and bring alot of memories.  Don’t worry too much about your expenses because that will be back 🙂 . Just be smart on your expenses provided that you are enjoying.

That’s it! join in my weekly FREE webinar here https://learn.digitalmarketing.ph and it will be FB live via my page https://www.facebook.com/brandingtoroi/

Palawan is the last ecological frontier in the Philippines. We’ve been traveling for the last 12 years and so far El Nido was listed in our top 3 destinations to visit. No wonder why it was listed as one of the World’s top beach destination reviewed online.

Check out this video i created for the recommended tourist spot to visit in El Nido, Palawan. Later on, i will post another blog for the complete itinerary and walkthrough experience.Experience all these as low as Php3,600 all-in per pax. Minimum of 2 required. It’s official summer season already here in the Philippines and the weather get’s crazy yesterday. In Dagupan City, the heat index went up to 52 degrees celsius which is in danger level already. It will be then difficult to walk around the City from 10am to 4pm so make sure to always stay in door as possible. If there is no reason to go outside then just stay at home or go the a private resort in Antipolo that is one of the best and affordable.

So, we decided to have the very first family reunion of the Mabana clan (the side of my wife, Jennifer) and the venue is located just near the popular land mark of Antipolo, the Hinulugang Taktak waterfalls. The resort name is Villa Susana’s Event Place and Resort. They offer half day or full day group private resort accommodation.

Because of another long weekend, we decided to visit another bucket list destination that is difficult to reach but very rewarding once you get there. Let’s get started then 🙂

The Paradise Island of Jomalig is another remote island paradise in the easternmost part of Polilio Group which is very near in Camarines Norte where you can find another paradise called Calaguas Island. It is Pronounced as “hu-ma-lig”, Jomalig is an island municipality of Quezon Province. Another fact is that the locals of the island are called “Jomaligins” and are among the kindest persons in the Philippines. According to my habal habal driver, the population is only about 7,000.

Jomalig Island is surrounded with golden sand and rich turquoise water, where most locals get their livelihood. Their premier beach is situated in Salibungot (Sitio Burungawan) with a long coastline of golden sand uniquely dotted with agoho trees and a sandbar on the other end during low tide.

The beauty of the island, the serenity of the place and its warm people are the charm of this lovely town. Experience Jomalig and fall in love with this golden paradise.

How to Get to Jomalig

By Air

Jomalig has an airstrip, so it is possible to charter a plane to go to here. Just like Balesin Island (a private 5  star island resort experience), you can rent a private chartered plane in NAIA.

By Land/Sea

Going to Jomalig is an adventurer’s treat especially if you go there by boat. There are three possible ways to get there by boats: via Real and Atimonan, Quezon; and Panganiban, Camarines Norte. These are not commercial boats but cargo vessels. Going there by boat is difficult from October to mid-March due to huge waves brought by northeast monsoon or amihan.

Via Real

This  is the most common route since there are regular boats from Real that go to Jomalig. The boats are found in Ungos Port near the school (not in Puerto Real). As of 2018, there are three departures on a good day – 5AM, 7AM and 10AM. These boats ferry cargoes and fish as well. Fare is at P400 per person and usually includes fisherman’s meal, travel time is at least 4 hours.

If you miss the boat to Jomalig, you may opt to catch a boat to its neighboring island of Patnanungan, and then charter a boat to Jomalig from there.

Going to Real via public transport, catch an Infanta or Real bus bound in Legarda, Manila. Raymond Bus Line has round-a-clock schedule for Infanta/Real for at least four hours of bus ride passing to Rizal Province, Siniloan and Famy in Laguna. Bus fare starts at P200.00. Get off at the docking station near the school before the Puerto Real port.

Alternatively, there are vans located near Raymond Bus Terminal, fare is P250 Travel time is three to four hours.

Via Atimonan

Boats to Jomalig from Atimonan ferry copra, but unlike Real, the ferry services from this point are irregular and not on daily basis. Travel time from Atimonan to Jomalig takes six to seven hours.

From Manila, Atimonan is accessible by land transportation. Buses going to southern towns of Quezon and Bicol pass to Atimonan. Travel time is approximately four hours. Once in the town, take a tricycle to go to the port.

Via Panganiban

Like Atimonan, boats to Jomalig from Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte have irregular ferry schedules although this is the closest entry point to Jomalig from mainland Luzon. Travel time takes three to four hours.

Catch a bus going to Daet and get off at Talobatib Junction in Labo. From Talobatib Junction, you can ride a bus going to Panganiban, bus fare is less than P50. Travel time from Manila to Talobatib is approximately six to seven hours, and from Talobatib to Panganiban is around an hour to an hour-and-a-half.

Where to Stay in Jomalig

There are no high-end hotels in town, only homestays and lodges. We stayed in Hayahay Beach Resort and Restaurant in Barangay Casuguran which offers rooms for P500 to 600 per night (with shared toilet and bath) It’s a great place as they are infront of another beach called Little Baguio. You will experience a private beach here seriously because there are no other resorts nearby

Camping along the beach is also allowed, but bring your own camping equipments.

Things to do in Jomalig

Being there is a great escape from chaotic city living. Sit on the sand, see the sunset, enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the place, kill time, mingle with the people. Jomalig is a paradise, a golden paradise.

Other activities to enjoy your stay in Jomalig are:

  • Swimming and Beach Hopping (Sitio Burungawan is a must visit place)
  • Snorkeling
  • See the mangroves in Sitio Landing
  • Go island hopping
  • Camping/Picnic
  • Visit Little Boracay, Little Batanes, Canaway Beach, Golden Sandbar and Bigwangan Lake
  • Explore the other islands and beaches of Polilio Island Group specially those in the town of Burdeos

Kultura Splash Wave Pool Resort Review – The only wave pool resort in Northern Luzon, is it really worth it? Well, let see and let us know what can you say in this video:

Overall based on my findings, the cost amounting Php280 for adult during weekends is very reasonable. Its not that cheap nor affordable, its just average. I recommend you to try this one specially if you are in Northern Luzon. The splash wave was really cool and most specially the water slides that are similar to Splash island in Laguna and Aqua Planet in Clark. So instead of going to the said places, why not just head here and enjoy?

Did you know that Armenia is the only FREE visa on arrival country we can visit us Filipinos in the European continent? Yes that is true! did you also know that its the only country that you can experience snow and do skiing without any difficult visa to get comparing to South Korea, Japan and China. How is that possible? well give you a quick guide on how we did it as part of our Middle East Europe tour coming from Manila.

See our flight and 1st day tour from Dubai straight to Yerevan, Armenia.

Here are our travel itinerary:

We got a great deal from www.cebupacificair.com for only Php2,750 each roundtrip. Isn’t amazing? yes, we got it last year during the New Year sale and the flight was last November 4 to November 14. I will attached here our flight itinerary for all your reference:

Cebu Pacific Promo Manila Dubai

2. Acquire a Tourist Visa before traveling to Dubai, UAE. You can easily get one through any accredited travel and tour operator in Dubai, Airlines or any friends living there. In our case, we just contacted my classmate in UP and he assisted me to get one. It only took us about 2 days to get the e-visa that should be printed before checking in the airport. It will also be shown and stamp in Dubai immigration. The cost of Visa is around 250 aed or about Php5,500.

3. Book quality but cheap accomodation in Dubai. We got a 4-star hotel for only Php2,200 per night called Safron Boutique Hotel. You can book it online through booking.com. We also tried 1-star hotel like Emirates Hotel and Garden Inn for only Php1,200 to Php1,500. If you compare the difference  better go through the 4-star accomodation to enjoy your vacation.

4. Get a good deal flight from Dubai to Armenia through flydubai.com. I checked their website and the cheapest European connection is only Php7,000 roundtrip going to Bulgaria and Netherlands. For Armenia, we got each roundtrip ticket for Php15,000, a bit costly comparing to the other connections. Subscribe to their website and monitor the promotion for Armenia.

5. Pay Visa on arrival in Armenian immigration. The cost of the visa is only 3,000 drum or about Php400 estimate and you can stay there up to 2 months depending kn your itinerary. For us, we mentioned that will only stay for 5 days but they gave us 20 days so it might be their minimum duration i think.

6. Get a local and friendly tour guide with accomodation. Before going to Armenia, i did my research and contacted a local tourist guide so they can pick us in the airport. We got a good deal for only $250 good for 4 days that include the travel and tour, airport pickup and drop-off, welcome drinks and other freebies.

Check out my different blog post for our complete itinerary during our 4 to 5 days visit in Yerevan, Armenia.

El Nido is one of my dream destination when i was young. I only heard about this magnificent island through television, post card and online. I’ve been to Palawan twice, the first one was way back 2008 with friends and we just visited the capital city of Puerto Princessa plus the under ground river however we didn’t get a chance to visit El Nido that time due to time constrains. Last 2016, we visited back again Palawan and we went to another dream destination, Coron. It was a nice place and i thought my Palawan adventure will end there.

Just this year 2018, for the 3rd time, I visited Palawan again now together with my parents and sister who just arrived from United States. I make sure that El Nido will be part of our itinerary what ever it cost just to get there. So i rented a car from Puerto Princessa and drove our way there to El Nido for almost 5 hours. I was not dissapointed after all as i saw one of the hidden paradise on earth to tell you all honestly. I’ve been to many popular beach travel destination here in the Philippines like Siargao, Boracay, Camiguin, Caramon, Baler, Hundred Islands, Samal Island in Davao and so much more but only El Nido is the best if we compare it with regards to destination, activities, lagoon and lakes. Well, i’ve posted one best white island destination called Calaguas Island that can be found in Camarines Norte, Bicol region.

We’ve been travelling for more than 12 years now here in the Philippines and abroad. One of the best destination we go is near coastal and beaches to unwind. We are amazed in Boracay, Puerto Gallera, Coron, El Nido, Samal Island in Davao, Camiguin, Caramoan, Baler, Siargao and so much more. They are all fantastic however there is one destination that beats them all and that is Calaguas Island in Camarines Norte.

Camarines Norte is now turning into a prime tourist destination because it offers a lot to local and foreign tourist, whether they want to relax on the beach or ride the waves. One of the must visited places of the region is Calaguas Island and its easy to get there by land or by plane. Due to its demanding popularity, it is experiencing increase in visitors and growth in business. It is a best place to visit because of its relaxing environment, white-sand beach, relative seclusion, cerulean waters and great overlooking views.

Calaguas Island – The best virgin island in the Philippines

Image may contain: sky, cloud, ocean, mountain, outdoor, nature and water

There is no commercial establishment in Calaguas Island making it a virgin island to visit. You will not see any hotels, restaurant, bar, entertainment and commercial buildings. What you will only see is pure white beach island and nothing else. There are few locals in the area that assist tourist upon arrival and they will assist your tent for you stay there overnight.
